If the other person involved in the accident phones and asks for information, should I give it to them? What if their insurance adjuster calls?

It’s a good idea to limit who you speak to and what you say so they don’t later try to use it against you. Keep in mind that the insurance company adjusters are very good at what they do; they know the law, know what questions to ask, and how to get you to settle. For that reason, it is best to be represented, whether that’s by your insurance carrier or an attorney. Once you are represented, the other party may not legally call you. All information must be filtered through the person representing you. If someone breaches that, give him or her the correct contact information for your attorney. And if the other person’s adjustor calls, even after being informed that you are being represented, let your adjustor or attorney know immediately.

If you volunteer information and later retain counsel, you may have already given out too much information and consequently may make it difficult for the attorney to salvage the full value of your case.
