Do I have any claims against the pool’s owners from slipping in a large puddle of water by the side of the pool?
Due to the high risk of slip and fall accidents in slippery areas surrounding a swimming pool, owners must take reasonable care to provide non-slip surfaces and to take other measures to prevent accidents – for example, warning guests of an unsafe condition.
To establish negligence in a slip and fall case, you will have to show either that the pool owner negligently created the puddle, or negligently failed to remedy the puddle after notice that it was there. You may be able base your claim on the surface surrounding the pool. Was it tile that became slippery when wet? The tile may have been a negligent choice of materials if it was unreasonably dangerous when wet.
